(Gingerbread Men)
1/2 Cup Shortening 3 Cups Flour 1/2 Cup Sugar 1/4 Teaspoon Salt 1/2 Cup Light Molasses 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda 1/2 Tablespoon Vinegar 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon 1 Egg, Beaten 1/2 Teaspoon Ginger
Bring shortening, sugar, molasses and vinegar to boiling. Cool and add egg. Add sifted dry ingredients; mix well. Chill. Roll on lightly flowered surface. Cut to any desired shape. Bake on greased cookie sheet in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 12-15 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies. Use this recipe for Gingerbread Men!

"Better known as Gingerbread men. When I was growing up we would use a straw to put a hole in the top, tie a ribbon through it, and hang them on the tree. It was fun getting to eat the cookies off the tree! Be sure to make the men wave and dance (pose their arms and legs) ... it gives them character!" - Calla Ferre
