Susan's Coffee Cake

3/4 Cup Sugar 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Cup Shortening 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Egg 2 Tablespoons Flour
1/2 Cup Milk 2 Teaspoons Cinnamon
1 1/2 Cup Flour, Sifted 2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
2 Teaspoons Baking Powder 1/2 Cup Nuts, Chopped

Mix 3/4 cup sugar, shortening and egg thoroughly. Stir in milk. Sift together and stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. For topping mixture mix together remaining ingredients. Grease and flour 9-inch square pan. Put half of batter in pan. Sprinkle it will half of the toping mixture. Add rest of the batter and sprinkle the top with the rest of the topping mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-35 minutes. Serve warm. Makes 9 3-inch squares.
